Seeds that do not sprout and what the seller repays; how much waste a buyer must accept

Overview

The ברייתא about seeds that did not sprout ends with רבי יוסי and the reply 'אמרו לו'. The גמרא asks which of these opinions match the dispute of רב and שמואל about following the majority in money matters. It concludes that the match must involve the תנא קמא, since רבי יוסי and 'אמרו לו' both follow a majority and only argue about which one. A new ברייתא asks whether the seller repays only the value of the seeds or also the buyer's planting expenses. רב חסדא says the 'יש אומרים', who require expenses, is רבן שמעון בן גמליאל. A proof from our משנה is rejected, and the גמרא instead brings a ברייתא where רבן שמעון בן גמליאל makes a worker who ruins food pay even for the embarrassment of the host and his guests. A new משנה then sets how much waste or spoiled goods a buyer must accept. The גמרא starts questioning רב קטינא's claim that this means legumes and not dirt, and that challenge continues on the next עמוד.
