End of the proof about indirect damage from the broken vineyard fence (כלאי הכרם), and a new משנה about a dyer who ruins or wrongly dyes wool
Overview
The amud opens with the end of a ברייתא about a vineyard owner whose fence broke. He was warned again and again but gave up and did not repair it. He is held liable for the neighbor's grain that became forbidden as כלאי הכרם, even though he did nothing active. The גמרא uses this to show that רבי מאיר holds a person liable for indirect damage. Then a new משנה begins about a dyer. If he burned the wool in the pot, he pays the wool's value. If he dyed it badly (כָּאוּר), the owner pays him only the smaller amount: his expenses or the value he added. If he used the wrong color, רבי מאיר says he pays for the wool, and רבי יהודה says he is paid the smaller amount. The גמרא starts to explain the word כָּאוּר as כַּלְבּוֹס, and רבה בר שמואל's explanation of that word comes on the next amud.
