Uses of שביעית produce whose benefit comes after they are used up, and whether רב הונא's ruling like רבי יהודה on the dyer was needed.
Overview
The amud opens by saying that plain wood is meant for burning, so its benefit comes only after it is used up. רב כהנא says that whether such wood carries קדושת שביעית is a מחלוקת תנאים. The חכמים forbid using שביעית produce for soaking flax or for laundering, and רבי יוסי allows it. The חכמים learn from "לאכלה" that only uses like eating are allowed, where the benefit and the using-up happen together. רבי יוסי learns from "לכם" that all common needs are allowed, and he uses "לאכלה" only to forbid a poultice, which not everyone needs. The גמרא then returns to the משנה of the dyer. רב הונא rules like רבי יהושע בן קרחה and like רבי יהודה. רב יוסף objects that the ruling like רבי יהודה was not needed, because the unnamed משנה in בבא מציעא already follows him. They argue over whether the order of the משנה can be trusted across בבא קמא and בבא מציעא. The amud ends by opening a new ברייתא about someone who gives money to his שליח, and that case continues on the next amud.
