A thief who slaughters a stolen קדשים animal: can the שחיטה count as the act that 'permits' the animal, when really זריקה or פדיה is what permits it?
Overview
The גמרא is explaining how a thief can owe the fourfold or fivefold payment for slaughtering a stolen consecrated animal. After explanations given in the name of רבי יוחנן (slaughter inside the מקדש), ריש לקיש gives his own case: slaughtering blemished consecrated animals outside. רבי אלעזר objects to both. Inside, it is the זריקה of the blood that permits the meat. For a blemished animal, it is the פדיה that permits it. So the slaughter alone does not seem to permit anything. The גמרא answers that רבי אלעזר forgot רבי שמעון's rule: what is ready to be sprinkled counts as sprinkled, and what is ready to be redeemed counts as redeemed. It proves the sprinkling half from a ברייתא about נותר. Meat left overnight after the blood was fit to be sprinkled can get טומאת אוכלין, even though the blood was never actually sprinkled. The amud ends as the גמרא begins a second ברייתא of רבי שמעון to prove the redemption half, which continues on the next amud.
