Overview

This amud has two short משניות that close the פרק, and then the opening of a new פרק. A pepper mill can become טמא for three reasons, and a ברייתא matches each reason to one part of the mill: the bottom holds, the middle sifts, and the top is metal. A child's wagon can get מדרס טומאה because the child leans on it. It may also be picked up on שבת because it is a כלי. The משנה says the wagon may be dragged only over a covered surface, since on bare ground it digs a groove. The גמרא says this follows רבי יהודה, who forbids a דבר שאין מתכוין, and not רבי שמעון. The סיפא, where רבי יהודה says a wagon only presses the earth, seems to contradict this. The גמרא answers that two תנאים report רבי יהודה's view differently. After the הדרן, the new פרק אין צדין begins: fish may not be trapped from ponds on יום טוב, but animals and birds may be taken from enclosures and fed. רבן שמעון בן גמליאל starts a general rule about enclosures, which continues on the next amud.
