Checking a בכור's blemish around יום טוב, moving a dead animal on יום טוב, and dividing an animal on יום טוב without setting prices
Overview
The גמרא finishes describing how רבא handled a בכור around יום טוב. He looked at the blemish before יום טוב began, and on יום טוב itself he only asked how it happened, to make sure the owner did not cause it. A ברייתא proves from the words 'any blemish' that even causing a blemish indirectly is forbidden. A new משנה then rules that an animal that died may not be moved on יום טוב, and the same ruling was given to רבי טרפון about טמא חלה. The גמרא asks whether this goes against רבי שמעון, who allows cutting up a carcass for dogs. After working through two reports of רבא's view, it concludes that the משנה is about a קדשים animal that was already in danger of dying, and it is forbidden because it is holy. A second new משנה teaches that people may not first sign up for shares of an animal on יום טוב. The גמרא explains that the problem is setting prices, and it shows how to divide the animal by comparison or by fractions and settle the money after יום טוב.
