Whose תחום objects follow on יום טוב (guests' portions, deposits, רב חנא's meat), and which animals are מוקצה for slaughter

Overview

The משנה rules that guests may not carry home food their host gave them on יום טוב, unless he transferred ownership to them on ערב יום טוב. The reason is that objects follow the 'feet' (the תחום) of whoever owned them when יום טוב began. The גמרא brings a dispute about produce left with a friend for safekeeping. רב says it follows the keeper, and שמואל says it follows the owner. A suggested link to a damages dispute between the חכמים and רבי is rejected by both. רב's view is then challenged from the משנה twice and defended with the idea of a 'corner set aside' for the owner, and also with the point that a full transfer of ownership is different. The story of רב חנא בר חנילאי's meat on the door bar raises several challenges. The גמרא finally rereads it as a question of meat left unwatched, not a question of תחום. A new משנה then teaches that household animals may be slaughtered on יום טוב but desert animals may not, because they are מוקצה. A ברייתא and רבי argue over how to define desert animals. The גמרא begins to ask whether רבי holds of מוקצה at all, and that discussion continues on the next amud.
