Topic

The end of פרק כל הבשר (blood and its exclusions), and the new chapter on attached parts and שומרים for טומאת אוכלין versus טומאת נבלות

Overview

This amud finishes one chapter and begins the next. First the גמרא explains that limiting words in the פסוקים of תרומת הדשן and עגלה ערופה keep their special rule of מעילה from spreading to other cases. Then it explains why three phrases are needed about the blood of קרבנות: each one frees blood from a different prohibition, namely נותר, מעילה, and eating קדשים while טמא. No phrase is needed for פיגול, because blood is itself the מתיר, and פיגול applies only to things that something else permits. Then פרק כל הבשר ends, and a new משנה opens. It teaches that parts attached to meat, like the hide and bones, join with the meat to reach a כביצה for טומאת אוכלין, but not a כזית for טומאת נבלות. The גמרא calls these parts שומרים. It finds the source that they count for light impurity in seeds sown in their shells. It finds the source that they do not count for severe impurity in the word ״בנבלתה״.

Exclusions are written:

הָכָא כְּתִיב ״וְשָׂמוֹ״,

here it is written: "And he shall put it,"

הָתָם כְּתִיב ״הָעֲרוּפָה״.

וּתְלָתָא קְרָאֵי לְמָה לִי בְּדָם?
