End of פרק ראשית הגז, the opening משנה of פרק שילוח הקן, and the גמרא on its phrases and on the exemption of sacrificial birds
Overview
The amud opens by finishing From an earlier case the גמרא learns that people do not sell the כהן's gifts. So if the seller kept some wool, he gives ראשית הגז; if he kept none, the buyer gives it. After the הדרן, פרק שילוח הקן begins. Its משנה says the מצוה applies everywhere and at all times, but only to non-sacred, kosher birds that are not מזומן. It compares this to כסוי הדם and ends with a מחלוקת about a male קורא. In the גמרא, רבי אבין and רבי מיישא explain when the משנה's phrases 'בארץ ובחוצה לארץ', 'בפני הבית ושלא בפני הבית' and 'בחולין ובמוקדשין' are needed. They also defend the גיד הנשה case with the idea of איידי. Then the גמרא learns from the פסוק 'שלח תשלח את האם' why sacrificial birds are exempt. רבינא extends this to a kosher bird that killed a person. The גמרא begins asking what exact case רבינא means, and that discussion continues on the next amud.
Opening lines
Evidently, the gifts of the priest —
a person does not sell.
Here too, the gifts of the priest —
a person does not sell.
