Passing objects through a מקום פטור between domains, the water-channel dispute, and drawing water from a balcony over water on שבת
Overview
This amud joins a sugya already in progress about moving objects between two domains by passing them through a small exempt spot (מקום פטור). The גמרא first says that רב דימי's ban on exchanging through such a spot applies only to Torah-level domains, not to רשויות דרבנן. It then challenges this with the משנה of a wall between two courtyards. On that משנה, רבי יוחנן rules that for a wall under four טפחים wide, each side may use it but may not exchange. The גמרא answers that this strict version of רבי יוחנן is זעירי's tradition, not רב דימי's. It then explains how זעירי reads the earlier water-channel ruling and defends that reading with the question of whether a כרמלית has 'holes'. רבינא offers a different reading, tied to the known dispute about לבוד. A new משנה follows about drawing water through a balcony over water on שבת, which requires a ten-טפח partition. The גמרא contrasts this with חנניא בן עקביא, whose leniency applied only at ים טבריא. It begins explaining his three leniencies for the people of טבריא, and the explanation of storing produce in pods continues on the next amud.

said it even regarding rabbinic domains, as we learned:
