End of פרק כל הגט and the opening of פרק השולח: how and until when a husband can cancel a גט he sent, and which words count as cancelling it
Overview
The amud opens with the end of פרק כל הגט. The word יפרי is explained as heavy rain loosening things that are fitted tightly together, with three examples that each go further than the last. After the הדרן, פרק השולח begins with a משנה. A husband who sent a גט can cancel it by telling the שליח or his wife, in person or through another שליח, as long as the גט has not reached her hand. The משנה also says that people once cancelled a גט before a בית דין somewhere else, and רבן גמליאל הזקן stopped this מפני תיקון העולם. The גמרא then asks why the משנה lists each case. It explains that every case rules out a different suspicion, such as the idea that the husband only meant to upset his wife. Next, a ברייתא teaches which words cancel a גט, and the גמרא challenges it from a ruling about a gift, where the word בטל means 'void from the start.' אביי begins his answer, and it continues on the next amud.
