Who may step in when a creditor seizes sold land: leaving a similar field for the creditor, and the seller (ראובן) defending the buyer (שמעון) against ראובן's own creditor
Overview
This amud opens by finishing an earlier ruling. A buyer who still has a similar middle-quality (בינונית) field available can tell the creditor to collect from that field instead. Then אביי rules on a sale באחריות, meaning with a guarantee. If ראובן sold a field to שמעון באחריות and ראובן's creditor comes to seize it, ראובן may step in to defend the field. The creditor cannot say 'you are not my opposing party,' because whatever he takes from שמעון will come back against ראובן. A second version (איכא דאמרי) says ראובן may step in even without a guarantee, because he does not want שמעון to have a תרעומת against him. The amud ends as אביי begins a new case about a sale שלא באחריות, which continues on the next amud.
