How partners with unequal investments split profit (שמואל, רבה, רב המנונא), and the order and oaths when several wives collect their כתובות.

Overview

The עמוד opens with the end of שמואל's ruling: when two partners put unequal money into a shared purse, the profit is split equally. רבה limits this to an ox bought for plowing and used for plowing. If the ox was slaughtered and sold for meat, each partner takes according to his money. רב המנונא says the profit is split equally even then. The גמרא challenges רבה from a ברייתא and answers that the ברייתא's second case, separate purchases that got mixed, is really describing the slaughtered ox. Next it challenges שמואל from our משנה, which says three partners divide gains and losses by investment. רבה בר אבוה answers that 'gain' and 'loss' there mean the coins themselves went up or down in value. A new משנה follows: when a man with four wives dies, earlier כתובות are paid first, and each wife swears to the next. The תנא קמא and בן ננס argue about whether the last wife must swear. The גמרא asks what their argument depends on, and שמואל's answer begins on the next עמוד.
