רבי טרפון's way for a ממזר to have non-ממזר children through a שפחה, and the opening of פרק עשרה יוחסין on the lineage groups that came up from בבל
Overview
The amud opens with a ברייתא about a master who frees his pregnant שפחה but says her child stays a slave. רבי יוסי הגלילי says the child goes free with her. The חכמים say the master's words stand, and רבא explains that the פסוק they quoted is really the source for רבי יוסי הגלילי. Next comes a משנה: רבי טרפון says a ממזר can have a child with a שפחה, and once that child is freed he is not a ממזר. רבי אליעזר says the child is a ממזר slave. The גמרא proves from the story of רבי שמלאי and his ממזר host that רבי טרפון allows this לכתחילה, and שמואל rules that the הלכה follows רבי טרפון. The גמרא then debates the word 'לו', which רבי אליעזר uses as his source, and the רבנן answer that a שפחה's child is like an animal's young and takes no lineage from the father. The פרק 'האומר' ends, and the new פרק 'עשרה יוחסין' lists ten lineage groups that came up from בבל and who may marry whom. The גמרא explains that 'went up' teaches that ארץ ישראל is higher than all other lands, and it begins checking the sources for this on the next amud.
