רב פפא's version of the contradiction between the purse case in our משנה and the wine-from-כותים case in מסכת דמאי, the answer, and the closing הדרן of מסכת מעילה

Overview

This amud gives one more version of ריש לקיש's question about the purse case in our משנה. רב פפא sets that case against a משנה in דמאי about wine bought from כותים. In that משנה, רבי מאיר lets the buyer say that portions of wine he will separate in the future are תרומה and מעשרות, and then drink right away. רבי יהודה, רבי יוסי and רבי שמעון forbid this, because at the time he speaks nobody knows which wine those portions are. The purse ruling seems to rely on that same idea, since only the last coin left turns out to be the holy one. The answer is that the end of our משנה is about someone who said 'this purse will not be free of הקדש,' so his own words make the last coin the holy one. The amud then closes the פרק השליח שעשה שליחותו and all of מסכת מעילה with the הדרן.
