Topic
End of פרק קדשי קדשים and the opening משנה of the next פרק: when a bird sin offering (חטאת העוף) carries מעילה, when it can become disqualified, and when its meat carries the penalties of פיגול, נותר and טמא.
Overview
The amud opens with the last line of the previous discussion: even רבי עקיבא agrees that sprinkling the blood does not make the meat permitted for eating. Then the Hadran closes the chapter קדשי קדשים. A new chapter begins with a משנה about the bird sin offering (חטאת העוף), laid out in three stages. From the moment it is consecrated, מעילה applies. Once its neck is pinched (מליקה), it can become פסול through a טבול יום, a מחוסר כפורים, or being left overnight. Once its blood is sprinkled, eating it can bring liability for פיגול, נותר and טמא, but מעילה no longer applies. The גמרא then notices that the משנה says a טבול יום only disqualifies the bird and does not make it טמא. It asks whose view this is and answers that it is the רבנן. It begins quoting a ברייתא with the opposing view of אבא שאול, which continues on the next amud.
