Defining the משנה's terms for sewing, bed cords and millstone work on חול המועד, and whether one may cut grooves in millstones on the מועד.
Overview
The גמרא explains three rulings from the משנה about work on חול המועד. First it defines a הדיוט, who may sew normally, and מכליב, the changed stitching a professional is allowed to do. Next it asks what מסרגין and ממתחין mean for bed cords. רב דימי's report of the dispute runs into two challenges, one from a ברייתא of רב תחליפא בר שאול and one from a משנה in כלים. So the גמרא brings רבין's version instead: everyone agrees מסרגין means both directions, and the only dispute is about ממתחין. Then a new משנה allows setting up an oven, a stove and a mill. רבי יהודה limits מכבשין on millstones. רב יהודה and רב יחיאל define מכבשין in two different ways, and both definitions survive a challenge from a ברייתא. Finally, רב הונא harshly condemns cutting grooves on חול המועד, following the 'יש אומרים'. רב חמא permits it, and his teaching from רבי מאיר about trimming a riding animal's hooves continues on the next amud.
