Rules of mourning: late news of a death, קריעה, which relatives one mourns for, mourning together with a spouse, and tearing while standing.
Overview
The גמרא finishes the story of רב hinting to his uncle רבי חייא that רבי חייא's brother and sister have died. רבי חייא removes his shoes and soon goes to bathe, and the גמרא learns three הלכות from this: an אבל may not wear shoes, late news (שמועה רחוקה) needs only one day of mourning, and part of a day counts as the whole day. News that becomes late during a רגל or שבת also needs only one day. רבי מני and רבי חנינא then argue about whether one does קריעה for late news, and the גמרא explains why tearing for a parent after שבעה does not disprove רבי מני. A ברייתא lists the relatives one mourns for, along with a מחלוקת about mourning for a relative's relatives. The גמרא learns that a husband joins his wife's mourning only for her parents, from the story of מר עוקבא and from ברייתות. Finally, אמימר tears his garment in front of his grieving son and redoes the tear standing, which is learned from the פסוק about איוב.
