Trapping pests and repairing walls on חול המועד, and examining נגעים on חול המועד
Overview
This עמוד finishes the earlier talk about getting rid of ants: two ant holes count as close if they are within one פרסה. Next, the גמרא explains רבי יהודה's rule on trapping moles and mice on חול המועד. In an orchard you may trap the usual way, but in a grain field only in an unusual way. A ברייתא describes both methods. רבי שמעון בן אלעזר adds that a grain field next to an orchard may also be trapped the usual way, to protect the trees. The גמרא then turns to closing a breach in a wall on חול המועד, which is done with branches or loose stones but no clay. רב חסדא says this limit applies only to a garden wall, and that a courtyard wall may be built normally. After a back-and-forth about a ברייתא on a dangerous leaning wall, רב אשי proves רב חסדא right from the משנה's line about שביעית. Finally, a new משנה asks whether a כהן may examine נגעים on חול המועד, and רבי and רבא begin to define the dispute, which continues on the next עמוד.
