Delaying and timing the כהן's inspection of נגעים, then the משנה on gathering parents' bones and mourning before a רגל
Overview
This amud finishes a discussion about why the תורה needs two פסוקים, one about נגעים on the body and one about נגעים on a house, to teach that the כהן's inspection can sometimes be delayed. רבי shows that each פסוק teaches something the other could not. The גמרא then asks how the ברייתא learns from "וּבְיוֹם" that there are days when the כהן does not inspect. אביי learns it from the extra letter ו, and רבא learns it from the whole word. They then trace where each one learns that נגעים are inspected only by day: אביי from "בְּיוֹם", and רבא from "נִרְאָה לִי". Next comes a new משנה. רבי מאיר allows gathering one's parents' bones on חול המועד, while רבי יוסי calls it mourning. The משנה also bans stirring up mourning or giving a הספד in the thirty days before a רגל. The גמרא answers a challenge to רבי מאיר through אביי, explains what "arousing" mourning means, and gives רב's story behind the thirty days. שמואל's answer begins at the end and continues on the next amud.
