Overview

This amud finishes the argument between רבי שמעון and the רבנן about the words ״מיין ושכר יזיר״. The גמרא explains that the יין מצוה רבי שמעון forbids is wine a person swore to drink, following רבא's case of an oath to drink followed by נזירות. For the רבנן, the extra word ״ושכר״ teaches two rules. For רבי שמעון, ״שכר״ is used either for a גזירה שוה that forbids a כהן in the מקדש only wine, against רבי יהודה, or to teach that by נזיר one איסור does take effect on another. The גמרא then explains that the רבנן read ״מכל אשר יעשה מגפן היין״ as teaching that the נזיר's grape איסורים combine. רבי שמעון does not need that rule, because for him any tiny amount gets מלקות. A new משנה teaches that saying "I am like שמשון," or describing him clearly, makes a person a נזיר שמשון, and the גמרא explains why each description is needed. A second משנה contrasts a נזיר עולם with a נזיר שמשון regarding cutting heavy hair and the קרבן טומאה. The גמרא says that משנה is missing a line and begins to restate it, continuing on the next amud.
