Ruling on the נדרי זירוזין dispute, then the משנה on נדרי הבאי and the search for a case of שבועות הבאי
Overview
This amud opens by finishing an argument from the previous amud. The גמרא concludes that the רבנן really disagree with רבי אליעזר בן יעקב about נדרי זירוזין, then asks whose view is the הלכה. רב הונא and רב אדא בר אהבה both rule like רבי אליעזר בן יעקב. Next comes a new משנה with examples of נדרי הבאי, vows tied to obvious exaggerations, like seeing a crowd as big as those who left מצרים. A ברייתא adds that נדרי הבאי are not binding, but שבועות הבאי are binding. The גמרא then searches for the exact case of such an oath. אביי suggests 'I swear that I saw,' but רבא rejects this and gives his own case: 'all the produce of the world is forbidden to me by oath if I did not see' that crowd. רבינא then asks רב אשי whether the man might have truthfully meant an anthill, and the answer comes on the next amud.
