Two sources for why both father and ארוס cancel a נערה המאורסה's vows, and the בעיא of whether the ארוס 'cuts' or 'weakens' the vow
Overview
The גמרא brings a second source, from the school of רבי ישמעאל, for the rule that a נערה המאורסה's vows are cancelled by her father and her ארוס together. It then asks how each side uses the other side's פסוק. רבי ישמעאל's school uses 'אם היו תהיה לאיש' for רבא's other teaching. רבא uses 'בין איש לאשתו' to teach that a husband cancels only vows that affect the two of them. Next the גמרא asks a new question: when the ארוס cancels, does he cut away his share of the vow, or weaken the whole vow? The practical difference is a case of two olives, where the answer decides whether she gets מלקות. To answer, the גמרא begins a ברייתא about when the father's power becomes complete after the ארוס dies, and the ברייתא continues on the next amud.
