Overview

The amud opens with two proofs from a ברייתא that the argument about a יבם annulling his יבמה's vows is about a case where he did מאמר, as רבי אמי said. The גמרא then explains the ברייתא's phrase 'and like other matters, so are vows.' רבא says it means this: a man is not stoned for being with a יבמה the way he would be for a נערה המאורסה, so the יבם's power over her vows is also weaker. רב אשי shows that the wording of the משנה points to the same idea. Next, a new משנה teaches that a husband who ratifies his wife's future vows in advance has said nothing. If he nullifies them in advance, רבי אליעזר says it works because of a קל וחומר. The חכמים disagree, because the פסוק ties הפרה to הקמה. The גמרא then asks how רבי אליעזר's advance הפרה works: do the vows take effect for a moment and then get cancelled, or do they never take effect at all? It begins asking what practical difference this makes, and the answer continues on the next amud.
