Whether jumping that brings on bleeding sets a וסת, and the new משנה on when a woman with a fixed וסת must still check herself.

Overview

The amud opens with the end of a משנה. רבי מאיר says pregnant and nursing women keep the leniency of 'their time is sufficient' even if they keep bleeding. רבי יוסי, רבי יהודה and רבי שמעון limit it to the first sighting. רב הונא rules that a woman who jumped and saw blood three times sets a וסת. The גמרא concludes that this is a combined וסת of days plus jumps, and רב אשי gives a case to show why. A second version of רב הונא says the same case sets a וסת of days alone. A new משנה teaches that even a woman with a fixed וסת must check herself and use checking cloths, and it lists when she checks. The exceptions are a נדה and a woman in her days of דם טוהר. The גמרא explains why a נדה need not check, even according to רבי יוחנן. It then tests the exception of דם טוהר against the argument between רב and לוי, and לוי's answer continues on the next amud.

Opening lines

שׁוֹפְעוֹת דָּם וּבָאוֹת —

Even if they keep flowing with blood

דַּיָּין כׇּל יְמֵי עִיבּוּרָן

their time is sufficient all the days of their pregnancy

וְדַיָּין כׇּל יְמֵי מְנִיקוּתָן,

and their time is sufficient all the days of their nursing,

דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי מֵאִיר.

these are the words of Rabbi Meir.
