Whether designation (הזמנה) counts, who inherits from people executed by the king, and how דוד's curses on יואב came true in דוד's line

Overview

Earlier on this daf, אביי held that setting an item aside (הזמנה) for a purpose already gives it that status, while רבא held that only actual use counts. The גמרא rejects a proof for רבא from clothes thrown on a bier, and explains with עולא that the ban there is only so people won't confuse them with shrouds. A proof for אביי from a pouch for תפילין is rejected by reading it like רב חסדא. A ברייתא about a case for a ספר תורה seems to support רבא, but the גמרא says the question is an older argument among תנאים. After רבא shows that a garment woven after death really happens, as in הרפניא, the גמרא rules that the הלכה follows רבא. Then a new ברייתא argues whether the property of people executed by the king goes to the king or to the heirs. The גמרא tests this with נבות's vineyard and with יואב grabbing the מזבח, and turns the proofs aside. The story of יואב leads to רב's teaching that דוד's curses on יואב came true in דוד's own descendants: רחבעם, עוזיהו, אסא, יאשיהו and יכניה. The explanation of יכניה's curse continues on the next amud.
