Topic
The conditions for סקילה with a נערה המאורסה, whether both parties must be equally punishable, and רבי's reading of 'תחל' for a בת כהן.
Overview
The amud opens by finishing an earlier discussion: the extra letter in 'לא תקלל' teaches two prohibitions. Then a new משנה teaches that a man who sleeps with a נערה המאורסה gets סקילה only if she is a נערה, a בתולה, a מאורסה, and still in her father's house. If two men sleep with her, the first gets סקילה and the second gets חנק. רב says this משנה follows רבי מאיר, who leaves out a קטנה, and רבינא proves it from the words 'עד שתהא'. רב rules that according to רבי מאיר, a man who sleeps with a betrothed קטנה loses only סקילה and still gets חנק. He is challenged from 'ומתו גם שניהם' and stays silent. The גמרא explains that this is a dispute between רבי יאשיה and רבי יונתן, and shows how each one uses the other's פסוק. Finally, רבי reads 'כי תחל' about a בת כהן as 'first', and two אמוראים explain him differently: as following רבי ישמעאל or as following רבי מאיר. The last question, what רבי's 'וכן' means according to רב יוסף, is answered on the next amud.
