רבי אליעזר vs. חכמים on one sukkah for seven days and owning your sukkah, plus stories of רבי אליעזר's conduct

Overview

This amud opens with a ברייתא. רבי אליעזר says you may not switch from one sukkah to another during the חג, and you may not build a new sukkah on חול המועד. חכמים allow both, and everyone agrees that a sukkah that fell down may be rebuilt. The גמרא explains that רבי אליעזר reads 'תעשה... שבעת ימים' as 'a sukkah fit for seven days,' while רבנן read it as 'build a sukkah during the חג.' A second ברייתא brings another view of רבי אליעזר: just as you need your own לולב on the first day, you need your own sukkah ('לך'). חכמים answer that 'כל האזרח' shows all of ישראל could sit in one sukkah, so a borrowed sukkah is fine, and each side explains how it reads the other side's פסוק. Next come stories about רבי אליעזר: he praises people who stay home on the רגל, and he avoids answering whether a sheet may be spread over a sukkah because he never said anything he had not heard from his רבי. The גמרא asks how that story fits his own rulings and decides it happened on שבת. It ends by asking why the question was not answered from רבי אליעזר's own ruling about a window shutter, and that challenge continues on the next amud.
