Libation wine after pouring (burning, מעילה, plugging the שיתין), an אגדה on modesty, צדקה and חסד, and why the שבת water barrel was not consecrated
Overview
This amud opens at the end of רבי אלעזר בר צדוק's teaching that leftover libation wine is burned in holiness. רבינא learns this through a גזירה שוה on the word קדש. The גמרא then asks whose view fits the משנה that libations are subject to מעילה only until they reach the שיתין. Two versions of that discussion each end by showing it fits both opinions, since once an item's מצוה is done there is no מעילה. ריש לקיש teaches that the שיתין were plugged during wine libations, and רב פפא and רבא draw lessons about drinking wine from the word שכר. A long אגדה follows: פסוקים from שיר השירים about going up לרגל and learning Torah privately, then רבי אלעזר's teachings on modesty, צדקה and גמילות חסדים, along with a ברייתא and teachings on חן and 'תורת חסד.' Finally the גמרא returns to the משנה about water for שבת, and זעירי explains why the golden barrel was not consecrated. That explanation finishes on the next amud.
