רבא's rulings on borrowed walls, sunlight through the walls (רבי יאשיה), אביי's list of תנאים who require a דירת קבע, and רבי יוחנן's round סוכה.
Overview
The amud opens with two rulings of רבא. סכך over a מבוי with a לחי is a כשרה סוכה, and so is סכך over פסי ביראות. The גמרא explains why each ruling is needed (צריכותא), including a third ruling that goes from the laws of סוכה to the laws of שבת. Next the משנה says a סוכה with more sun than shade is פסולה. A ברייתא records a מחלוקת: the תנא קמא counts only sunlight through the סכך, while רבי יאשיה also counts sunlight through the walls, based on the פסוק about the פרוכת. אביי then lists eight תנאים who all hold that a סוכה must be a דירת קבע, and the גמרא shows the source for each one. Finally, רבי יוחנן rules that a round סוכה needs room for twenty-four people around its edge, following רבי's four-by-four-אמות minimum. The גמרא challenges this with math showing that twelve should be enough. The answer comes on the next amud.
