Overview

This amud opens by finishing the previous discussion: we take into account that one brother might die, but not that two brothers will die. Then רב, quoted by רבא בר רב הונא, rules on three sisters who fall for יבום before two brothers. Each brother does חליצה with one sister, and the third sister needs חליצה from both. רבה explains that this must assume יש זיקה, so her חליצה is a חליצה פסולה that has to be repeated with every brother. The גמרא then asks why the first two sisters do not need both brothers as well. It answers that רב means sisters who fell one after another: the first two get a proper חליצה, and only the last one's חליצה is flawed. The גמרא asks how רב can say this when he holds אין זיקה, and answers that he was speaking according to those who hold יש זיקה. Finally, שמואל rules that one brother's חליצה is enough for each sister. The גמרא begins to challenge him from his own statement that a proper חליצה is required, and the quote of that statement comes on the next amud.
