The woman who remarried on a false report: her גט, her lost כתובה, and her child, with a side discussion about תרומה separated wrongly by mistake or on purpose

Overview

This amud continues the case of a woman who heard her husband died, remarried, and then the first husband came back. The גמרא explains that she needs a גט from the second man as a קנס (penalty), because she actually lived with a man forbidden to her. When she was only betrothed, she did nothing forbidden, so there is no קנס. She loses her כתובה so that it will be easy for the man to send her away. She also loses the rights that come from the כתובה's conditions, and she must return anything she already took. To explain why her child is a ממזר, the גמרא brings a משנה about separating תרומה from impure produce for pure produce. רב חסדא and רב נתן ברבי אושעיא argue about whether a deliberate separation like that counts for nothing at all, or still makes the portion תרומה. The גמרא then works through contradictions between cases of mistakes and cases done on purpose. It ends by starting a question on רב נתן ברבי אושעיא's view, which continues on the next amud.

Opening lines

שֶׁנָּתַן לָהּ אַחֲרוֹן גֵּט —

that the last one gave her a bill of divorce

לֹא פְּסָלָהּ מִן הַכְּהוּנָּה,

he has not disqualified her from the priesthood

מִכְּלָל דְּלָא בָּעֲיָא גֵּט.

this shows that she does not require a bill of divorce

דְּאִי בָּעֲיָא גֵּט,

for if she required a bill of divorce
