Where the צרה of an ערוה is forbidden (only in יבום) and why, from ויקרא 18:18 and from רבי's reading of ולקחה and ויבמה.
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a point: the extra word עליה in ויקרא 18:18 teaches that the צרה of an ערוה is forbidden only in a case of יבום, and is permitted otherwise. רמי בר חמא asks רבא why the ערוה herself shouldn't also be permitted outside of יבום. רבא's קל וחומר is knocked down by a צרה תוכיח. His source from בחייה is then shown to be needed for the case of a divorced wife. So רב הונא בר תחליפא, quoting רבא, brings a new source: the פסוק hints at two women (לצרור) and at one woman (לגלות ערותה). Where there is a מצוה of יבום both are forbidden, and otherwise only the ערוה is forbidden. The word עליה shows which way to split the two hints, and רב כהנא defends this against רב אשי's reverse reading. The גמרא then turns to רבי, who learns the rules of צרות and עריות from the extra 'her' in ולקחה and ויבמה. It checks how רבי and the רבנן each use the words of the פסוקים, ending with רבי using עליה for a ברייתא about the קרבן of a בית דין and the כהן משיח.
