Placing the קומץ in a כלי, the measure of מלא חפניו, spilled blood, and questions about the קטורת
Overview
This amud is mostly a series of questions (בעיות) about how the קומץ, the blood, and the קטורת are handled. First, two questions ask whether a קומץ stuck to the side of a כלי, or to the bottom of an upside-down כלי, counts as placed in the vessel; both end in תיקו. Next, רב פפא asks how full 'מלא חפניו' must be, and a ברייתא answers: not level and not heaped, but comfortably full (טפופות). The גמרא then quotes a משנה from זבחים: blood that spilled straight onto the floor and was gathered is invalid, but blood that spilled from the כלי and was gathered is valid. A ברייתא gives the source, reading ״מדם הפר״ as 'blood from the bull', meaning it must be received directly from the animal. The גמרא backs this reading with רב יהודה's rule that all the blood must be received. רב פפא then asks whether scattered קטורת is like blood falling from the neck or from a כלי, and this ends in תיקו. Finally, he asks whether a wrong מחשבה while scooping the קטורת disqualifies it. רב שימי בר אשי answers from רבי עקיבא's grouping of קטורת with the קומץ, using the chain טבול יום → לינה → מחשבה. A new question by רב פפא begins at the end and continues on the next amud.
Opening lines
רַב פָּפָּא:
Rav Pappa (asked):
דַּבְּקֵיהּ לְקוֹמֶץ בְּדוּפְנֵיהּ דְּמָנָא, מַאי?
If he stuck the handful onto the side of the vessel, what is the law?
תּוֹךְ כְּלִי בָּעֵינַן — וְהָא אִיכָּא,
Do we need it inside the vessel, and that is the case here?
אוֹ דִילְמָא: הַנָּחָה בְּתוֹכוֹ כְּתִקְנוֹ בָּעֵינַן —
Or perhaps we need it placed inside in its proper way,
