Overview

The גמרא opens with a ברייתא saying that if a זר or another unfit person does הולכה, carrying the blood, the service is פסול. This refutes רב ששת. The גמרא explains that רב ששת ruled before he knew this ברייתא, and later used it against רב חסדא. It also explains that רב חסדא's פסוק only shows the לויים stood holding the blood like benches. Next, רב פפא asks whether a handful of קטורת scooped by another כהן is valid, and the question ends in תיקו. רבי יהושע בן לוי then asks whether a replacement כהן גדול may enter with the handful scooped by a כהן גדול who died. This leads to a side discussion about רבי חנינא's praise of the question, whether רבי חנינא was older, and his medical expertise. רב פפא and רב הונא בריה דרב יהושע disagree about how the answer depends on whether the כהן גדול scoops a second time inside. The גמרא tries to settle that question from the משנה, rejects the proof, and begins a new proof that continues on the next amud.
