טומאה הותרה בציבור vs. טומאה דחויה בציבור: whether a communal offering may be brought in טומאה even when a pure alternative is available
Overview
This עמוד continues the מחלוקת between רב נחמן, who holds טומאה הותרה בציבור (impurity is fully permitted for public offerings), and רב ששת, who holds טומאה דחויה בציבור (impurity is only pushed aside, so purity is still sought when possible). רב ששת brings a ברייתא showing that an impure מנחת העומר is replaced if another is available. רב נחמן answers that this is only because the עומר has שיריים that must be eaten in purity. The גמרא challenges him with a ברייתא about the מנחה of bulls, rams, and sheep, which seem to be the סוכות offerings. רב נחמן reads them as the פר עבודה זרה (no fixed time), אילו של אהרן (an individual's offering), and the כבש of the עומר (has leftovers). A ברייתא about impure blood sprinkled on purpose is limited to an individual's offering. A ברייתא saying the ציץ brings acceptance even for public offerings is answered in two ways: it means only the individual's offering, or only public offerings without a fixed time. The עמוד ends with a new challenge from the verse about the ציץ, which begins eliminating פיגול and נותר and continues on the next עמוד.
