How a doubtful מצורע brings his אשם and לוג of oil with a stipulation, and how the קומץ and seven sprinklings can both be done without breaking בל תקטירו

Overview

This amud finishes a teaching about a person who is not sure whether he is a מצורע. He brings an אשם and says: if I am not a מצורע, it is a voluntary שלמים. Because of this doubt, it must follow the stricter rules of both offerings, including being eaten for only a day and a night. The גמרא first uses this to challenge the claim that רבי שמעון does not allow bringing קדשים to a state of פסול. It answers that helping a person become purified is a special case. Next it asks about the מצורע's לוג of oil. He declares the oil a voluntary offering if he is not a מצורע, so the כהן takes a קומץ, refills the לוג, does the seven sprinklings and burns the קומץ. The גמרא then asks when the קומץ is burned. Burning it after the sprinklings fails because the leftovers shrank, and burning it before fails because of בל תקטירו. רב יהודה בריה דרבי שמעון בן פזי answers that the sprinklings are done לשם עצים, only as fuel and not as an offering. He supports this with a ברייתא of רבי אליעזר that continues on the next amud.

וְאִם לָאו – אָשָׁם זֶה שֶׁל שַׁלְמֵי נְדָבָה.

וְאוֹתוֹ אָשָׁם טָעוּן שְׁחִיטָה בַּצָּפוֹן,
