Laundering a חטאת stain, which vessels need מריקה ושטיפה, and when fire can clean absorbed taste from ovens, pots and tiles
Overview
The גמרא finishes explaining how urine is used when laundering a garment stained with חטאת blood. The urine is blended into tasteless saliva, which goes along with every one of the seven cleaning substances. A new משנה then teaches that a vessel needs מריקה ושטיפה whether holy meat was cooked in it or poured into it boiling. רבי שמעון exempts קדשים קלים. A ברייתא learns the 'poured in boiling' case from the full פסוק. רמי בר חמא asks whether cooking without absorption, such as meat hanging inside an earthenware oven, requires breaking the oven. Two proofs are offered and both are pushed off. Next, רַבָּה בַּר אֲהִילַיי's ruling that bread from a fat-smeared oven is forbidden forever is refuted by a ברייתא, which says firing up the oven is enough. This leads רבינא to ask why רב requires pots to be broken for פסח. The גמרא gives two answers: metal versus earthenware, or heat from inside versus heat from outside. It ends by ruling that a clay baking tile heated from outside stays forbidden.
