An owner redeeming his consecrated field in the second יובל, and a field a son bought from his father

Overview

The גמרא asks whether, according to רבי אליעזר, an owner who redeems his consecrated ancestral field only in the second יובל cycle counts as 'another person' (כאחר). It first tries a proof from a ברייתא on the word ״עוד״. That proof falls away when the גמרא shows the ברייתא can be read as a field a כהן consecrated, a reading that works for every תנא. The גמרא then explains why the Torah needed ״לא יגאל״, ״לאשר קנהו״ and ״עוד״. Next it brings a ברייתא of רבי אליעזר, which comes in two versions: in one, the owner in the second יובל is like another person and the field goes to the כהנים; in the other, he is not, and he keeps it. A new משנה follows about a son who buys a field from his father: רבי מאיר and רבי יהודה and רבי שמעון disagree on whether it is a שדה אחוזה or a שדה מקנה. The משנה also teaches that a שדה מקנה never goes to the כהנים, and that כהנים and לוים may always consecrate and redeem. The גמרא suggests their argument depends on whether קנין פירות is like קנין הגוף. רב נחמן בר יצחק begins to answer, and his answer continues on the next amud.
