Torn hides, meat entering and leaving a house of עבודה זרה, and business with people going to an idolatrous festival
Overview
This amud finishes the discussion of hides torn opposite the heart, a sign that the animal may have been killed for עבודה זרה. A teaching says a hide with no trace of blood is permitted, and רב הונא limits this to a hide that was never salted, since salt could have drawn out the blood. שמואל rules that the הלכה follows רבן שמעון בן גמליאל, who forbids only a round tear. אביי asks whether that ruling means the חכמים really disagree, and he insists that understanding matters even when the practical law stays the same. Next the גמרא explains the משנה's rule on meat. Meat going into a house of עבודה זרה is permitted, which cannot follow רבי אלעזר. Meat coming out is forbidden, because some of it was surely offered, and this follows רבי יהודה בן בתירא, who compares idolatrous offerings to a מת. Finally, שמואל explains the ban on doing business with people going to a תרפות: for a גוי it applies on the way there, and for a ישראל on the way back, with the reason continuing on the next amud.
Opening lines

לֹא שָׁנוּ אֶלָּא שֶׁלֹּא מְלָחוֹ,
They taught this only where he did not salt it,
אֲבָל מְלָחוֹ — אָסוּר.
but if he salted it — it is forbidden.
