Making vessels that held a גוי's wine usable: brine, fire, rinsing, cups, and glazed vessels
Overview
The גמרא keeps discussing vessels that soaked up a גוי's wine, and how to make them usable again. First it proves that fish brine may be put into old jugs from the start. Then it says firing the jugs in a furnace until the tar softens permits them, but burning splinters inside does not. רב נחמן and רב יהודה forbid putting beer into such jugs and רבא permits it. Next comes a series of vessel types: dung vessels filled with water (and wrongly left in the sun), כלי נתר that can never be fixed, and jugs that need only a rinse, either because the wine was in them only briefly or because they barely absorb. For drinking cups, the הלכה is that a גוי's first or second use forbids them and the third use leaves them permitted. Finally, רב זביד and מרימר argue about glazed vessels of different colors. The גמרא asks why חמץ on פסח should be different, and narrows a question put to מרימר down to smooth white and black vessels. His answer begins at the end of the amud and continues on the next one.
