Whether visitors to a sick person can later act as judges, and until when a person may back out of a קנין (transaction)
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a point about רב יהודה's rule on three people who visit a sick person. By day they may either write his will or judge the matter. At night they may only write, because by the next day they are already witnesses, and a witness cannot become a judge. רבה בר חנינא confirms that this is what he meant. The גמרא then brings a מחלוקת about how long a person may back out of a קנין. רבה says it is as long as the people are still sitting together, and רב יוסף says it is as long as they are still talking about that deal. רב יוסף tries to prove his view from רב יהודה's rule. If the sick man could still back out while everyone sits there, how could the visitors judge his case? רב אשי answers that the same problem exists for רב יוסף. Whatever answer רב יוסף gives can work for רבה too, and that argument finishes on the next amud.
