The laws of שושבינות (groomsmen's gifts), then types of Torah scholars and readings of ״כל ימי עני רעים״
Overview
This amud finishes a ברייתא about שושבינות, the gift a groomsman gives at a friend's wedding and expects back at his own. The גמרא explains each rule: the gift can be collected in בית דין because it is like a loan, it has no ריבית problem, שביעית does not cancel it, and a בכור does not take a double share of it because it is ראוי. רב כהנא then rules that the one who received the gift must repay it even if he missed the giver's wedding. אביי adds how much he may subtract for the meal he did not eat. A ברייתא teaches that the gift is repaid like for like, at the same kind of wedding. The גמרא then turns to a teaching that compares different kinds of Torah scholars to kinds of wealth, and says everyone needs the master of תלמוד. It ends with many readings of the פסוק ״כל ימי עני רעים וטוב לב משתה תמיד״.
