Overview

The amud opens with רב נחמן's response to the woman's open question from the end of 27a, whether a טמא מת may immerse and eat תרומת חוצה לארץ. He asks how immersion could help when there is no הזאה with the ashes of the פרה אדומה. רמי בר חמא suggests waiting for the elder, רב עמרם. When רב עמרם arrives, he reports that רב allowed a טמא מת to immerse and eat תרומת חוצה לארץ. The גמרא rules that the הלכה does not follow this. It also rejects רב ששת's similar ruling about a טמא שרץ. Then the גמרא returns to the משנה that a בכור is eaten שנה בשנה. From the משנה's wording it shows that the year is counted from the animal's birth, and רב learns this from the words 'שנה בשנה'. דבי רב read the same words as teaching that a בכור is eaten for two days and one night. The גמרא then shows where each side learns the other rule: דבי רב learn the year from other קדשים ('כבש בן שנתו'), and רב learns the two days and one night from a הקש to the חזה ושוק of שלמים.
