Night and מחוסר זמן for רבי יוחנן; missing the חגיגה cannot be made up; teachings on 'the crooked that cannot be made straight'.

Overview

The amud opens by finishing a debate about two rulings of רבי יוחנן. The earlier answer only works if פסח שני is תשלומין, so רב פפא gives a new answer: for רבי יוחנן, night is not מחוסר זמן. The גמרא challenges this from רבי יוחנן's ruling about a זב who saw discharges at night and in the day. It answers that רבי יוחנן said that ruling according to another view, and that its new point follows רב יוסף. Next the גמרא turns to the משנה: someone who missed bringing his חגיגה during the רגל cannot make it up, as the פסוק says, 'What is crooked cannot be made straight.' Several אגדה teachings follow. בר הי הי and הלל discuss the meaning of 'cannot be counted', and why reviewing learning 101 times is greater than 100 times. אליהו teaches that poverty suits Israel. Finally the גמרא resolves a contradiction between the משנה and a ברייתא of רבי שמעון בן מנסיא about sins that cannot be fixed. A second answer begins at the end of the amud and continues on the next amud.

Opening lines

שֵׁנִי — תַּשְׁלוּמִין דְּרִאשׁוֹן הוּא.

[that] the second is redress for the first.

אֶלָּא לְמַאן דְּאָמַר

But according to the one who says

שֵׁנִי רֶגֶל בִּפְנֵי עַצְמוֹ הוּא,

the second is a festival on its own,

מַאי אִיכָּא לְמֵימַר?

what is there to say?
