Next, the גמרא explains why the משנה needed to teach both the גיד and the piece, since each has a reason the other lacks. A new discussion follows. רבה בר בר חנה rules that a forbidden piece forbids the pot only if its flavor reaches everything. רב is stricter: a kosher piece that absorbs the flavor becomes נבלה and forbids all the pieces of its kind. רב ספרא challenges רב, and אביי answers that the forbidden piece was removed early. רבא then begins a second answer, which continues on the next amud.
