Milk falling on meat: נותן טעם, whether טעם כעיקר is a Torah law, רב's rule of חתיכה נעשית נבלה, and the debate over אפשר לסוחטו.
Overview
The amud opens at the end of an earlier discussion about מראית העין. A question from the סריקין cakes of ביתוס is answered with מר בר רב אשי's words: 'his belt proves it for him.' Then a new משנה teaches that a drop of milk forbids a piece of meat, or a whole stirred pot, only if it gives taste (נותן טעם). אביי says that the rule that taste forbids, even without the actual food, is a Torah law for all איסורים. He proves this from בשר בחלב. רבא rejects the proof: the Torah forbade meat and milk through cooking, so the taste rule there cannot teach us about other איסורים. רב then rules that a piece that absorbed milk becomes נבלה itself and forbids the other pieces, since they are its own kind. רבינא explains that רב's case is thick gravy, so רב does not argue with רבא's view of רבי יהודה. The גמרא shows that רב holds אפשר לסוחטו אסור and lists who holds each side. It then starts a challenge from another ruling of רב, which continues on the next amud.
