Meat and milk absorbed into each other: רב's pot of milk, lashes for half-and-half eating and cooking, and the dispute over אפשר לסוחטו.

Overview

Earlier, רב ruled that when a כזית of meat falls into a pot of milk, the meat becomes forbidden but the milk stays permitted. The גמרא asks why, since the milk that soaked into the meat should be forbidden. A first answer says the Torah forbids only the meat (the גדי), not the milk. That answer falls, because רב also gives lashes for eating half a כזית of meat cooked with half a כזית of milk, so he must count the milk as forbidden too. The final answer: the meat fell into a boiling pot, where it soaks milk in but does not let it out, and it was taken out before the pot cooled. The גמרא then examines that half-and-half ruling itself. רב says the halves do not join, and the lashes for eating apply only to food from a large pot. לוי disagrees and gives lashes for cooking too. Last, the גמרא shows that אפשר לסוחטו (absorbed taste that could be squeezed out) is argued about by רבי יהודה and חכמים. רבי's compromise, about whether the pot was stirred and covered, shows that he holds such a piece stays forbidden.
