Lung problems in an animal (טריפות): a lung stuck to the chest wall, holes sealed by the wall, and cysts on the lung
Overview
The amud finishes a list of animal conditions. An animal whose womb was removed is kosher. A wormy liver was permitted by the court in יבנה on the third visit of the people of עסיא. The גמרא then turns to a lung stuck to the chest wall. רב נחמן worries only if growths appear, while אבימי worries in both cases. רבא explains how to check such a lung with a thin knife. There are two traditions about רב נחמיה's lukewarm-water check, and רב אשי objects to applying it to two lobes stuck together. רב נחמן's rule that the chest wall can seal a hole in the lung is defended three times: by limiting it to the lung's natural place, by rejecting a proof from a ברייתא, and by explaining why the משנה never lists a pierced chest wall. Finally, שמואל permits a lung with cysts, but רבי ירמיה is strict like רבי יוחנן, and רבא begins a market story about רב נחמן that continues on the next amud.
Opening lines
שַׁלְפּוּחִית שֶׁלָּהּ – כְּשֵׁרָה.
If its womb was removed, it is kosher.
הִתְלִיעַ כָּבֵד שֶׁלָּהּ –
If its liver became infested with worms:
זֶה הָיָה מַעֲשֶׂה,
this was an actual incident,
וְעָלוּ עָלֶיהָ בְּנֵי עַסְיָא
and the people of Asia went up about it

- Statementמר זוטרא: we attach this story to a different case
- Statementרבא: two lobes stuck together cannot be checked
- StatementEven so, רב נחמיה checked in lukewarm water
- Challengeרב אשי: two stuck lobes cannot be blamed on anything else
- ChallengeDid רב נחמן really say that? He said the wall can seal a hole
- ResolutionIt depends on whether the lung touches the wall in its natural place
- QuestionWhere is the lung's natural place against the wall?
- ResponseIt is where the lobes are cut apart
- StatementBack to רב נחמן's rule itself
- Statementרבינא: only when the lung is tangled in the flesh
- Challengeרב יוסף: then even when tangled it should be a טריפה
- ProofProof from a ברייתא that only one kind of seal makes something fit again
- RejectionThe word 'this' excludes a weak skin over a lung wound
- ChallengeThen the משנה should list a hole in the chest wall
- ResolutionThe same question would apply to a gallbladder sealed by the liver
- ResolutionThe משנה only lists organs that cause the טריפה themselves
- Questionרבה בר בר חנה asks about a lung with cysts
- Responseשמואל rules the animal kosher
