Overview

The amud opens with רב חסדא's ruling: a live nine-month fetus found in a slaughtered animal needs its own שחיטה, yet if it dies it is not a נבלה. רבא objects that this mixes רבי מאיר and the רבנן. רב חסדא first points to a ברייתא of רבי חייא, and רבא rejects that support. רב חסדא then answers that the תורה made four סימנים valid for the fetus, so his whole ruling fits the רבנן. רב אסי reports that רבי יוחנן said the same, though no one knows whether ריש לקיש agreed. The גמרא then turns to רבי שמעון שזורי in the משנה. He and the תנא קמא differ over a בן פקוע that walked on the ground. Several rulings follow about a בן פקוע's offspring and about uncloven animals, and זעירי rules like רבי שמעון שזורי. In a real case, רב אשי tells אדא בר חבו to slaughter his injured בן פקוע, because he follows רבי יונתן: the הלכה follows רבי שמעון שזורי only for a מסוכן and for תרומת מעשר of דמאי, whose source משניות the גמרא then quotes.
